This striking village piece was woven in western Afghanistan in the Baluch tradition and features three stacked diamond medallions framed by an energetic zig-zag “running dog” border. In the close-ups you can see the supple, lanolin-rich wool pile and the crisp, stepped outlines that only hand work achieves. The palette is classic Baluch—deep ruby and midnight indigo enriched with camel, saffron, pistachio green and ivory highlights—producing a moody, elegant look that grounds a room. Abrash (natural tonal shifts) and tiny guard borders add movement and authenticity.
The back view shows compact asymmetric knotting (open-left) on a wool foundation with depressed warps—typical of older Baluch work. Pile is medium-low from careful age-appropriate wear, giving a soft sheen while keeping the drawing sharp. Ends finish with short kilim and secure overcast selvages; there are no holes or tears, only light, even wear that reads as beautiful patina. This size is perfect under a coffee table, layered over jute, or as a statement in an office, reading nook, or entry.
