$1,400.00
A striking, hand-knotted tribal rug from the Kurdish weaving tradition of the Zagros mountain region in West Asia. The field is arranged as a vertical column of three bold, latch-hooked medallions flanked by ivory panels filled with stylized tree-of-life shrubs—time-honored motifs symbolizing vitality and blessing. Deep madder reds, inky indigo, camel and moss greens sit against dark midnight grounds, framed by multiple guard stripes and a flower-and-vine main border. The wool shows that velvety, slightly lustrous sheen you want in an authentic village weave.
Structure and handle point to all-wool construction with symmetrical (Ghiordes) knots over wool warps and wefts, typical of Kurdish workshops and cottage looms. Pile is medium and even, with natural abrash (subtle color shifts) adding character. Edges and ends are sound; light, age-consistent wear only—no holes or major repairs seen. Woven mid-late 20th century, this piece brings the earthy geometry of the mountains into modern spaces, from boho to rustic-modern and eclectic interiors.
