Bring evocative storytelling to your space. This hand-woven vintage kilim depicts a village with a tall bell/clock tower, terraced fields and mountain sunrise—executed in warm earth tones that suit modern, rustic and boho interiors alike. Authentically woven by an Anatolian weaver, it doubles beautifully as a floor accent or wall tapestry.

Weaving tradition & structure.
The piece is a true kilim (flatweave), not a tufted or machine rug. Close-ups show classic weft-faced tapestry with areas of slit weave (the tiny vertical openings where two color blocks meet) and some interlocking joins in larger color fields. There is no pile, so knot type does not apply.

Regional origin.
The village tableau—stepped fields, tiled red roofs, tall tower, distant mountains and sunrise—along with the yarn palette of caramel, cream, chestnut, stone-grey and saffron points to Central Anatolia (Turkey), where mid-century village and landscape pictorial kilims were popular as wall hangings and small floor pieces.

Age.
Material sheen, mild abrash (natural tonal shifts), and gentle edge softening indicate late 1960s–1980s production, consistent with the Anatolian pictorial kilim movement of that period.

Materials.

Weft (pattern yarns): hand-spun wool with natural undyed browns and plant-dyed accents (ochre, rust, dark chocolate).

Warp (fringe & foundation): natural cotton warps—visible in the white fringes and the back.
Wool quality is resilient, slightly lustrous, medium twist—ideal for a wall hanging or light traffic area.

Design & motifs.
This is a narrative naqsha: a village at the foot of mountains with sunrise, a central tower, trees and geometric fields—an homage to agrarian life. The rising sun symbolizes renewal; the tower anchors the settlement; terraced fields denote abundance and stewardship of land. The geometric treatment is typical of Anatolian folk aesthetics—bold outlines and block-filled planes woven via slit tapestry.

Borders.
True to many pictorial kilims, there is no formal border—the scenery fills the field and “breathes” to the edges, emphasizing the tapestry character.

Maker’s hallmarks.
While unsigned, the mix of slit-weave joins, the tiny outlined windows/doors, and the color sequencing at the terraced corner are distinctive Anatolian workshop habits from the era.
