Hand-loomed in the Anatolian kilim tradition, this geometric flatweave bursts with crisp lozenges, ram’s-horn hooks and protective amulet motifs in deep indigo, madder red, mustard, ivory and sky blue. It’s a genuine village weaving—crafted from natural wool on a sturdy cotton warp—made to bring color, story and texture to modern spaces.
Weaving tradition & construction
This is a kilim flatweave (not a knotted-pile carpet). You can see the slit-tapestry joins where color blocks meet (close-ups) and the fine horizontal ribs from the weft-faced weave.
Because it’s a flatweave, there is no knot structure to identify (so neither Ghiordes nor Senneh); instead, colored wefts build the pattern over a light cotton warp (the bright white fringes). The warp selvedges are tightly overcast for durability.
Regional origin
The diamond chain (“elmas/lozenge”) field with saw-tooth edges, hooked polygons, and outer guard of amulet “+” guls framed by a reciprocal stepped border points to Central-Eastern Anatolia (Turkish kilim idiom) with design vocabulary shared across the Caucasus–Anatolia weaving belt.
Age
Fibers are strong, edges straight, fringes intact, and colors vibrant with only pleasant abrash (subtle dye striation) in the blues—typical of small-batch dyeing. Condition and handle suggest a recent village workshop piece (c. 2000s–2010s) woven in the classic style.
Materials
Weft (pattern): hand-spun wool, medium handle, matte luster.
Warp & fringe: cotton (ivory/white).
Dyes: a mix of traditional natural hues (madder red, indigo) and stable workshop dyes for consistency.
Motifs & symbolism
Nested diamonds/medallions: protection, the eye, and continuity.
Hooked “ram’s horn” (koçboynuzu) forms: strength and prosperity.
Cross/ashik amulets in the blue inner border: warding off the evil eye.
Reciprocal stepped outer border: a classic Anatolian/Caucasian framing device symbolizing mountains or unending path.
Structure & density (from close-ups)
Flatweave, weft-faced slit kilim. Approx. 15–18 weft rows per inch (6–7/cm) and ~13–15 warps per inch (5–6/cm), producing a firm, pliable handle.
Pile height: none (flat), thickness ~4–5 mm.
Maker’s marks
No woven signature (typical for village kilims). Distinctive is the repeating amulet gul guard stripe on all four sides—an Anatolian workshop hallmark.

Care instructions (flatweave wool)
Use a rug pad to prevent slip and reduce wear.
Vacuum weekly on low-suction or with a brushless head (both sides, with the direction of the ribs).
Spot clean promptly with cool water and a pea-size amount of wool-safe soap; blot—don’t rub.
For deeper cleaning, use a professional wool rug cleaner (avoid steam or harsh chemicals).
Rotate every 3–6 months for even sun exposure; avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve natural dyes.
